Hi everyone, Looking for advice if anyone can help. I'm upgrading from a 2011 Air to the 2016 Pro that just came out.

I've always used the SD card reader built into my air and now I'm looking for one that you plug in to use with the new Macbook Pro. I'm just wondering what everyone else here uses and what experience you've had with external card readers. I'm looking for something with a USB-C connection but it doesn't -have- to be USB-C. I've been told that the previous USB connection card readers will work with the new laptop if I use a USB to USB-C cable. But I'm guessing I'll get faster speeds if I use USB-C readers, and I'd like to save my cable for my external drives ( which use previous USB connection ) instead of having to buy two cables.

I'm looking at these three right now, has anyone tried them with the Macbook Pro or smaller Macbook released earlier this year? Apples: Satechi: Plugable. Simple invoices for mac. I would go with the Sandisk from Apple, since they have a 20% price reduction atm, it's a reliable manufacturer and as Apple are selling it you can be pretty sure it will work well with their machines. Since you also want to attach external disks (which I presume you have and are not USB-C) you might want to consider whether a multi-function adapter could better suit your needs, for example.

Black Friday is here. 70% off site-wide. Get the lowest prices of the year on made to measure suits, shirts and more. Suits from as low as $289. First you need to find a 'known good' SD card - that is, one you know works with other Macs without any issues. That eliminates the card as the potential.

More expensive, but maybe less fuss. Note it says 'coming soon'; there will be similar from other manufacturers. I looked for a USB-C card reader as well but I found out that all of these advertised are actually USB3 with either an adapter included or the connector on the cable has been changed. You will only have USB3 speed, i.e.

Also, your memory cards will probably not max out USB3. So I would look to see if you can get a USB3 and adapter for less than one of these that are advertised as USB-C. There are very small adapters that could even be taped on.

Also, will give you another adapter for something else if needed. One is the private key, which should never be shared with anyone. The other is the public key. The other file is a public key which allows you to log into the containers and VMs you provision. When you generate the keys, you will use ssh-keygen to store the keys in a safe location so you can bypass the login prompt when connecting to your instances. Mac os generate ssh key.

Apples: Satechi: Plugable: I use a model by Transcend that has USB 3.1 for the SDXC card, along with reading CF cards and miniSD cards. Very reliable and handy. $15 shipped on Amazon without cable.

It's really fast and works really well. Definitely goes all the way to the max read speed of my UHS-I card. I don't have any UHS-II cards to test it with though.
